Verify the download on Windows

Open PowerShell in the download folder and run:

Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 .\hp-hpia-5.3.5.exe
Get-FileHash -Algorithm MD5 .\hp-hpia-5.3.5.exe

The output should match the hashes above. If it doesn't, delete the file and re-download — do not run it.

What's new in 5.3.5

  • Fixes an issue where HPIA did not recommend the correct BIOS on Z6/Z8 G4 systems running Windows 11 25H2.
  • Patches a potential security vulnerability reported by HP's product-security team.
  • Eliminates false driver errors that could be reported when running ImageCapture.

What about the 32-bit version?

HP has not shipped a 32-bit build of HPIA since the v5.x branch. All current HP commercial platforms run 64-bit Windows, and the tool explicitly targets Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 (64-bit). If you are running 32-bit Windows you will need to upgrade the OS to use HPIA.

Offline / SPRF package

For air-gapped or secure environments, HP publishes separate SoftPaq Reference Files (SPRF) that let HPIA run completely offline. The SPRF is updated independently from the main HPIA executable and is available on HP's official CMIT page linked above. Download it on a connected machine and copy it to the offline system alongside HPIA.

System requirements

  • HP commercial PC (EliteBook, ProBook, ZBook, Z Workstation, HP Pro/Elite desktop)
  • Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11 (64-bit) — any currently supported release
  • ~50 MB free disk space (for extraction + logs)
  • Administrator rights (required for BIOS / driver / firmware updates)
  • Internet access (only for online mode; not required for SPRF/offline mode)
