Driver & BIOS updates
Automatically detects outdated or missing drivers, BIOS and firmware; recommends HP-certified updates.
The free HP utility that analyzes HP commercial desktops, notebooks and workstations, compares them to HP's reference image, and recommends driver, BIOS, firmware and security updates.
HP Image Assistant (HPIA) is a free Windows utility developed by HP to help IT administrators and power users optimize and maintain HP commercial PCs. Unlike generic update tools, HPIA is specifically designed for HP business desktops, notebooks and workstations, ensuring precise compatibility with HP-certified drivers, BIOS and firmware.
The software works by scanning your device and comparing it against HP's reference image database. Once the scan completes it produces a detailed report with recommended updates and fixes — missing drivers, outdated BIOS, firmware mismatches and security patches. These recommendations are tailored to HP hardware, making the system more reliable, secure and compliant with enterprise IT standards.
For enterprises managing large fleets of PCs, HPIA streamlines the process with automated scans, offline analysis and actionable recommendations. It reduces deployment risks, improves device stability and enhances lifecycle management — all without any licensing cost.

Grab the latest v5.3.5 build from our download page or directly from HP. The file is a ~6 MB self-extracting executable.
Double-click hp-hpia-5.3.5.exe and choose a folder to extract into. HPIA is a standalone tool — no installation happens.
Open the extracted folder and double-click HPImageAssistant.exe. Accept the HP Software License on first run.
Click Analyze. HPIA scans your device and produces a detailed report highlighting driver updates, BIOS revisions, firmware fixes and security recommendations.
From the report, select the updates you want. HPIA can download and install them directly, or export the report for review and later batch deployment.
IT admins can run HPIA in batch mode across multiple devices, or use offline mode with SoftPaq Reference Files (SPRF) for air-gapped environments.
